You always have to keep in mind sharing this will make a big difference financially many people share accommodation to keep cost down so if you are planning to stay with friends you already know make sure you can live along side them. A typical figure for an average apartment could be four people sharing, if you want to share, you can make up numbers with tenants looking for people to take up extra room available in their place. With thousands of young people flocking to the locality Magalluf, Palma Nova and surrounding holiday destinations every year looking for work for the summer season you need to start early to find work and accommodation. Be aware that the work you get will be varied and may not be what you planned while you are here so be prepared to compromise. It is true to assume your work will be in the holiday service sector which will be seasonal and sometimes unpredictable. A good season in the area means a longer term of work which will be determined by how good business is for your employer, as when the holidaymakers stop arriving you could lose your job. Work can be hard because the hours you work are tailored to suit holidaymakers which can be late hours. If you are planning to stay past the holiday season you will find accommodation may be cheaper but you need to have enough money to see you through or get a job where you can use skills or qualifications that you have outside of the usual seasonal work, these jobs can be temporary and harder to find. Longer term residents in Malloca may be entitled to social benefits from the Spanish authorities such as unemployment benefit and heath care depending on your eligibility but usually seasonal workers need to be aware that you are not covered for these eventualities.
On arrival in Mallorca start looking for work as soon as possible, take a tour around and ask in bars, hotels, shops anywhere you think may need seasonal workers. Talk to people especially if they have had experience of working in Mallorca and make an effort to get to know other workers.
When looking for accommodation beware of a few pitfalls, try to check availability before you arrive, in a busy time of the season it may be difficult to find something suitable. If you have arrived without a place to live then try to get recommendations before looking, It is extremely important to find the right place to live with the right landlord in order to enjoy your stay here. It would be well worth contacting our Mallorca Accommodation Facebook page to check availability or get personal advice for your needs, details on our Contact Us page.
Our advice whether you use our service or not is to make sure you don't part with any money until you have viewed the accommodation , understand the contract relating to the property and have the landlord's full name and contact details. On our info page you will see the standards we use for letting property; you don't want to make an expensive mistake.
Try to get a place to stay local to the main area where you intend to work otherwise you may have to rely on local transport you are not familiar with and add expense to your stay.
Remember if you do share living space try to ensure the people you will be living with will be the type you will get on with, if it's a shared tenancy, each tenant will be responsible for the actions of the others. So be careful if one person doesn't pay their share of the rent, the others will need to pay it for them. It's not the responsibility of your landlord if you don't take these precautions.
Always carry with you contact details or phone numbers for your Landlord for emergencies, like finding yourself locked out of your accommodation.
